The MixMatchMusic community has lots of new artists and lots of their music. We've made it easy for fans to cruise around and discover cool songs from different genres, including electronica, techno, house and hip hop. Plus some classic rock and other good stuff. You'll also find works in progress and even stems — the guitar, bass, drum, vocal and other song parts that make up existing songs and that can be combined in new ways to create new songs.

We've got a sweet online sequencer, the MixMaker, that is easy and fun to use. Find a work in progress or some stems and load 'em into the MixMaker, then mix and match and mash to your heart's delight. Riff on something you like or create something entirely new, or personalize your life's soundtrack. It's free. If you decide to download a riff or song you like or a new one you've created, it will cost you just a buck. But you own it and are free to use it in a ringtone or a slide show or some other private, non-commercial way.

We have this radical notion that artists should get paid for their work. It means they can keep creating the music we love. So each time a song, work in progress or stem gets downloaded, they get paid — $0.85 cents on every dollar, so the money goes to them and not the man. Or when the music moves you, you can "tip" them something extra — an extra buck or more, it's up to you.

We built this very cool lightweight music mash up widget called the Remix Wizard that lives on artists' sites and social network pages. Artists load stems (song parts such as guitar riffs, drum tracks, etc) of their songs into the Remix Wizard and you get to mix and match the various parts to create entirely new songs. Think Radiohead or Nine Inch Nails remix promotions, but easier to use and not requiring any special equipment.
