MixMatchMusic believes you should profit from your art, whether it's a stem, a musical idea or a completed song. So, we've developed a system of rights to protect your intellectual property that is flexible to meet your individual needs.

When you contribute music to the site, you grant a non-exclusive license to our community to make music with your contributions. Nonexclusive means you can do whatever you want with the contribution outside of the site. There are two types of users that will use your contributions:

Registered Users: Registered Users are fans - they aren't uploading content, but they are consuming, remixing and arranging your audio files and other artists' files. Doing so is free as long as the mix or song they make remains on our site — this is one way we promote music discovery. However, Registered Users pay for using your content when they download what they've made. This transaction triggers a payment to you and your co-authors of $0.85 for each dollar spent.

MixMatchArtists: MixMatchArtists are the other musicians who contribute music to the site — your potential future co-authors. They may sample and mix your content using the sequencer on our site. Or, you can give them the option of downloading your music for use in their own music software.

If you allow MixMatchArtists to download (instead of purchase) your contributions, you can customize the license that applies to the download. Whatever you choose, all downloads will appear in your transaction log and you'll be notified by email. The default license is that MixMatchArtists get five free downloads for every two uploads, but please choose whatever makes you feel most comfortable! If you do allow downloads, MixMatchArtists will attribute you when they upload the resulting work; this attribution is locked in with the audio file on the site and can never be erased! You'll be notified of this upload both in your transaction log and through email.

If you don't allow other MixMatchArtists to download your content into their software, they can use the files the same way as Registered Users, triggering the same payments.

If at anytime you want to commercially release a song made on the site, just get permission from your co-authors by messaging them. Then, use the Remix Wizard to cultivate and engage a fan-base!

MixMatchMusic provides you with the tools and reporting you need to keep track of your art, and to see who is doing what with it. You will not watch your music disappear into the vast digital realms of cyberspace!

Whenever Registered Users or MixMatchArtists purchase, download, or use your music to make a song, the transaction is recorded in your transaction log and you are notified via email (click here to set up your notifications). Anytime a song is made using your music, you will automatically be attributed for your work!

All songs collaboratively made on the site can be purchased, and when your music finds itself in one of these songs, you'll get paid. And, when your music finds itself in a song that is made and downloaded by a Registered User, you'll get paid! To check out the royalties you've earned, visit your Royalty Log. Royalties will be paid quarterly if you've accrued $10 in that quarter, otherwise you'll get paid when you hit $10. To set up how you want to get paid, click here.

One of our community goals is to bring musicians together with each other and with fans. Doing so may create opportunities for you to profit from your stems, random ideas and finished works both on the site, and potentially through off-site licensing/placement opportunities that we'll try to secure. For off-site licensing/placement opportunities you and your co-authors will make 85%! Plus, when a fan really digs your music, she can give you a little money in the form of a "tip", and of course you keep 100 percent of that!
